Following the well-received introductions of its Dura-Ace and Ultegra 11-speed series component and wheel lines, Shimano introduces its new mechanical 105 5800 series components that also deliver the most lauded features of the new premium 11-speed groups: ultra light action shifting and powerful braking. Designed to inspire riders of all levels, the all-new 105 5800 component group brings top-level performance to the widest range of riders, giving advanced functions, smooth operation and comfortable ergonomics.
The new 105 has an 11-speed drivetrain and adopted some key features from Dura-Ace and Ultegra. The 105 has that same light action and defined click engagement like Dura-Ace and Ultegra. Partly because of the polymer coated cables and partly because of the redesigned derailleurs and shift levers. This clearly shows Shimano’s philosophy of system engineering. All parts are individually designed to work together as one groupset.
Shimano’s 11-speed 5800 components deliver the lightest and easiest front shifting Shimano has ever made. The system delivers on the promise of “no hassle” front shifting thanks to technologies and innovations developed for 5800’s sibling component groups, Dura-Ace and Ultegra. With a compact new comfortable lever design borrowed from Dura-Ace and Ultegra, ST-5800 offers light action, shorter stroke response shifts that any rider will appreciate.
New lever ergonomics and revised brake calipers provide a new realm of braking control to this level of component group. With 10mm of reach adjust and a slim compact shape, the ST-5800 offers incredible comfort and increased control, especially from the hood position. 5800’s new SLR-EV calipers feature a new symmetrical dual-pivot design and offer 10 percent increase in brake power over previous 105. Twin bearings reduce pivot friction and the redesigned calipers are compatible with larger volume 28c tires. Also offered are direct mount BR-5810 aero brakes.
