We created our InSet family of headsets by applying the legendary form and function of Chris King headsets to fit solutions for a wide variety of tapered and oversized headtubes and steerer tubes being utilized in modern bicycle design. The Chris King InSet 7 combines seamless design and legendary quality in a 44mm headset with an external lower cup that is a precision headset option for your 1.5” tapered steerer fork. Our InSet 7 is equipped with our exclusive built-in-house bearings and our patented GripLock system for precise fit and function.
Engineered, manufactured and assembled in Portland, Oregon USA
Designed specifically for a 44mm straight headtube and a 1-1/8 to 1.5 tapered steerer tube
The GripLock headset retention system uses an isolated wedge system to separate headset bearing adjustment from steerer tube location thus eliminating loose headsets on long travel mountain bikes while simultaneously removing any chance of headset inflicted fatigue on the lightweight carbon steerer tubes found on modern road forks. This is accomplished by isolating the thrust force that passes through the steerer tube from the bearing race that provides the radial force that preloads the headset bearing adjustment. In standard headset systems, this preloading wedge is affected by each impact that runs through the steerer tube making the headset more susceptible to coming out of adjustment. This is why a non-GripLockTM equipped headset will come out of adjustment in rough terrain or over a long ride; the wedge has been essentially hammered out of position. At the same time this hammering effect causes the wedge to clamp down repeatedly on your steerer tube. This repeated clamping could have an adverse effect on steerer tubes, in particular those made out of advanced materials like carbon fiber where it could potentially score and fatigue the steerer tube. By eliminating the effects of thrust force on a headset’s radial preload our patented GripLock system is the next generation of headset function and security.
