A completely new technology combines a very engaging total black look with high range specs, including a special braking surface that creates new standards for braking on aluminum road bike wheels.
The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation process gives the braking surface very special characteristics regarding hardness and wear resistance.
This is possible thanks to a very fine and compact matrix of alpha and microcrystalline gamma alumina and amorphous alumina embedded on the surface. Thanks to the high hardness of the layer, this new wheel presents excellent wear resistance.
Fulcrum R&D department has developed a new design for Racing Zero Nite’s braking surface. The design created by turning allows superior braking efficiency. Specific blue brake pads should be used with this new model.
Triple Milling: this special triple milling makes it possible to reduce the peripheral weight of these road bike rims and to increase the reactivity of the wheels.
Differentiated rim height: 26mm at the front to have a good handling; 30mm at the rear to transfer all the power to the wheel.
Carbon hub with oversize aluminum flange and Two-to-One technology: the doubling of the spokes on the cassette side provides greater torsional stiffness and therefore a greater reactivity at each pedal stroke. This means greater efficiency in the transmission of power to these type of road bike wheels.
The front hub has been redesigned, now it is smaller and lighter than before, smoothness will be ensured by the well known USB bearing technology.
The cap and cone technology maintains the most efficient angle of contact between the bearings and bearing seat, increasing the smoothness and durability.
Spokes and nipples
Aluminum spokes and aluminum nipples: thanks to the light weight they reduce the peripheral mass, enemy of reactivity.
The concept is simple and elegant: balance the weight of the gasket, with an item of similar weight placed on the exact opposite side.
USB - Ceramic Ultra Smooth Bearings
Fulcrum has a long-standing reputation for the extremely high performance of its hubs in terms of smoothness and reliability.
In fact, all the projects are entirely developed in our R&D department and we have put obsessive care into taking care of every detail.
The hubs with USB ceramic bearings (Ultra Smooth Bearings) further enhance the triathlon and road bike wheels’ smoothness and reduce weight and the need for maintenance.
When you push on the pedals, the rotational force on the sprocket induces a slackening of the freewheel spokes with a consequent loss of rim tension. This results in undesirable flex of the whole wheel and an unavoidable loss of energy. Fulcrum has solved this classic cycling problem with its 2:1 Two-to-One Spoke Ratio patent, by doubling the spokes in the critical zones.
What is MoMag? A magnet and lots of ingenuity. This was what led to the patent for the well-tested “Mounting Magnet” system, or MoMag.
This new system raises the concept of spoking to a new level of performance for road bike and triathlon wheels.
The Fulcrum engineers have redesigned the spokes and the hub housings to create a solid and unmoveable whole. The result is that the spokes
a) will never lose their initial tension, thus keeping the wheel perfectly reactive and centred
b) will remain in the position that have been studied in the wind tunnel tests to ensure the best aerodynamic penetration possible.

Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation
The Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation treatment is a process made through electrical discharges that take advantage of heavy materials and free electrolytes.
This process is an advanced oxidation process of light alloys of aluminum, magnesium and titanium. This special project was developed a few decades ago in the Russian laboratories to improve characteristics of the lightweight materials used in the space and military spaces
